YABAM which has been established in 2020, has carried out and/or continues to carry out many research projects specific to wildlife.
As YABAM, we play solution partner roles by working closely with public institutions, academic units and Non-Governmental Organizations.
As a good example of this, YABAM provides scientific support and guidance to the field research activities of this NGO, within the scope of a cooperation protocol we developed with NATURA The Society For The Conservation of Nature and Culture, which is a national NGO. Moreover, YABAM is developing joint project ideas with national-scale NGOs such as Nature Conservation Center Foundation (DKM), Nature Research Association (DAD).
On the other hand, our cooperation protocols or scientific research projects continue in terms of forest bats, cave ecology, management plans of species and habitats with public institutions and organizations directly responsible for the management of wildlife such as the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks (DKMPGM), General Directorate of Forestry (OGM), General Directorate of Conservation of Natural Assets (TVKGM).
In the near future, we will start the national ringing program with DKMPGM, specifically for bats, under the coordination of YABAM. Since the day we were established, we have been regularly monitoring wildlife in Yozgat Çamlığı National Park, Uludağ National Park, Kızılcahamam Soğuksu National Park and in different forest ecosystems within the borders of Köyceğiz Forestry Management Directorate affiliated to OGM.
Within the scope of another cooperation protocol we carry out with the Çankırı Branch Directorate of DKMPGM, we have been regularly continuing the monitoring program for the key wildlife species belonging to plant, amphibian, reptile, bird and mammal groups that spread in Çankırı province for about 2 years.
Another local cooperation in Çankırı is within the scope of the protocol prepared between YABAM and Kızılırmak District Governorate; In the areas within the borders of Kızılırmak District, we are carrying out the determination of the principles regarding the use of bat nests for biological control of mosquitoes, detection and suppression of other plant pest species.
If we need to mention a few that stand out from the solution partnerships we have developed with different local governments throughout Turkey; We can give examples of bat monitoring studies that we have been carrying out regularly since the day we were established in ORMANYA Natural Life Park belonging to Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, and bat monitoring studies that we have recently started in various parks and gardens of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.
In academic fields, as the external stakeholder of the TED University Sustainability Working Group, we provide support to the relevant working group with a special emphasis on wildlife.
As for the private sector, we provide consultancy services within our Center regarding the determination of the effects of renewable energy resources, mining, transportation and infrastructure, urbanization, industry, agriculture and livestock investments on wildlife, and the development of compensatory measures such as mitigation/prevention. In this context, we develop scientific guidance supports in cooperation with professional organizations such as the Turkish Wind Energy Association (TÜREB).
On an international scale, as experts of YABAM, we are part of the Specialist Group affiliated to the Species Survival Commission of the The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN-SSC, SG), and we have close cooperation with the UNEP/EUROBATS secretariat of the United Nations Environment Programme.
